Ministry of Social Development


ENC have partnered with the Ministy of Social Development and their senior workbroker Michelle Becks is now based at the ENC office. This gives us more ability to help businesses who are considering redundancy, redeployment or recruitment. There are a huge number of subsidies and assistance schemes available to help you keep staff or find new staff.

Support with Staff Retention

  • Financial support may be available for businesses needing help to retain staff
  • Redeployment support of affected staff into other areas or work sites to prevent lay-offs

Support with Taking on New Staff

  • Redeployment Support – available for employers taking on workers who have recently been made redundant elsewhere
  • Apprenticeships - ongoing wage subidies and support to take on new apprentices (helping you to start someone on a new career path and develop skilled people for your business)
  • Flexiwage Basic – Wage subsidy to help with the initial training period when starting permanent employment. The amount paid is variable and based on the situation of the  person you are taking on
  • Work Experience – An opportunity to invest in the upskilling of local youth. A six week paid work experience opportunity for youth with no previous employment history, that will assist them in their pathway to sustainable longer term employment outcomes
Redundancy Support
  • Assistance for employers to manage this process, including the potential of group presentations for businesses or affected workers

     

Regional Business Partner Network


The Regional Business Partner (RBP) Network has established a Covid-19 business fund. This is administered by ENC for North Canterbury and Kaikoura and is an opportunity for businesses to get funding for professional advice and guidance from a wide range of professional organisations.

The fund covers one-on-one advice in the following areas:

  • HR
  • Health and wellness
  • Business continuity planning
  • Finance and cashflow management
  • Marketing and digital enablement
To be eligible you must have fewer than 100 employees, be registered for GST, have a New Zealand Business Number (easy to get), be a commercial business and have been impacted by Covid-19.

There is also other help available such as free webinars, export specific information and resources, funding to grow your business skills, specific assistance for tourism businesses and more.
